Sizes, Characteristics, and Availability
Southern Red Cedar (Juniperus silicicola) is one of the most dependable native evergreen trees for Florida landscapes. At RC Trees, we grow the Fuzzy Wuzzy cultivar (Juniperus virginiana ‘CAN-SRC1’ PP31963), a selected form propagated from a superior seedling to maintain tighter growth, improved density, and strong resistance to mites.

We also produce liner material for other nurseries and offer contract growing in volume.
Landscape Use and Form
Used as a large-scale screen on bigger properties, Southern Red Cedar will grow together to form a dense, natural barrier with little maintenance.
In residential settings, it works well as an accent tree on corners or entry points, developing a naturally upright, pyramidal form that stays balanced without shaping.
Growing Conditions, Tolerance, and Maintenance
Southern Red Cedar performs well in:
- Full sun
- Sandy, well-drained soils
It offers excellent salt tolerance, making it suitable for coastal conditions, salt air exposure, and reclaimed water use.
Once established, it is extremely drought tolerant, requiring little to no supplemental irrigation and performing well in typical Florida conditions.
It can be trimmed throughout its life or left to grow naturally while maintaining its structure.
